Sandhu who had strong belief, dedication and determination to serve the rural population and to do a memorable service to the cause of health care and education, conceived the idea of starting a Nursing School at Dera Bassi for imparting nursing education & for providing much needed health care to the people of the area.

Qualities that make a good nurse

At Punjab National Nursing School, we believe that there are some essential qualities which makes a successful and efficient nurse. Punjab National Nursing School endeavor to imbibe and impart these qualities through condensed and rigorous training both in the theoretical and practical fields.

The Course

The Punjab National Nursing School currently offers a three years Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery. The course as currently offered, is a formal education preparation. It seeks to prepare you to practice modern nursing and provide a foundation for any further study and any specialized qualification in nursing that you may choose to go in for.

  • Library

    Recognizing that reading in the main way in which today’s nursing professionals can catch up and keep abreast of the changes taking place in the world as large as well as within this professional sphere the school has a well-equipped library with a wide range of both professional and non- professional books,journals,periodicals and newspapers.

  • Examinations

    Eligibility for yearly Examination is as per Indian Nursing Council and Punjab Nurses Registration Council rules.

    Course outline will be followed as per Indian Nursing Council Syllabus. Medium of instruction in the school is English. During the training period student are also assigned hospital duties in various departments, to gain the necessary clinical experience.

Lt. Col. G.S. Sandhu along with Col. H.S Bhattal and other members, formed a society and decided to set up a Nursing School in the name of Punjab National Nursing School, at Dera Bassi. The society got permission from Punjab Govt. on 21 Dec. 2001 and Punjab Nurse registration Council on 24 Jan. 2002 to start a Nursing School within take of fifty (50) admissions. Subsequently, the Society got approval of the Indian Nursing Council of New Delhi for admission for the 1 st session on 30 May, 03.
